Folias de Baco
As a boy, Tiago Sampaio grew up in the fields and vineyards of the Duoro. He pursued viticulture degrees in the United States but eventually found his way back to his native Portugal. He founded Folias de Baco in 2007 on his grandfather’s vineyards in the Alto Douro and expanded the vineyards including some vines of pinot noir which he learned to love while studying in Oregon.
The rugged, high- elevation sub-region called is the Cima-Corgo whose soils are of granite and schist. He makes field-blends of white, red and mixed from 80- year- old vines featuring native grape varieties and some new vines of the pinot noir.
