We are named The Original Wine Company because the most important thing about wine is the place it comes from. It is the French concept of terroir. But when we talk about terroir, we don’t just mean the soil the vines are rooted in. Wine uniquely expresses a sense of place which includes the soil, climate, the soil microbiota, and human technology and traditions.

We represent wines made mostly by small, independent, family-owned wineries. These are people who farm conscientiously and make wine with minimal intervention. Many of our growers are certified organic, some certified biodynamic.

The Original Wine Company sources wine from both heralded and little-known places in Europe. Our aim is to promote the sense of discovery and delight in trying something new, in going off the beaten path. For wine has the uncanny ability to transport us to its place of origin.

Every bottle has a story
